I work hard for my money.
I FINALLY got access to the fitness center at work. They have several treadmills, bikes, elliptical machines, weight machines, free weights, medicine balls, and a separate room where they have classes like zumba, pilates, boot camp, yoga, step aerobics, and all kinds of other stuff.
So today was my first day working out on my lunch break. Usually at lunch I eat in 10 minutes and I sit by myself out on the patio for 50 minutes. That's lame. Today I ate at my desk and walked/ran on the treadmill for 50 minutes.
I did a little over 3 miles. Most of that walking. I jogged the last 2 full minutes just to see if I could do it. I could. And I could probably do more, which really surprised me.
I was shocked at the boost of energy I had afterward! I always heard people say that working out gives you energy because your blood is flowing and all that, but I'd never really experienced it until today.
There are 2 things I'll do differently tomorrow.
1. I'll head down there at 1:15 instead of 1:00. At 1:00 the locker room is packed full of the lunch crowd showering and getting ready to go back to work upstairs. Just 15 minutes later and I will probably be the only person in the locker room for both before and after my work out.
2. I'll eat a snack at my desk 2-3 hours before I go work out and then I'll eat a small lunch (maybe just a sandwich and some fruit or something) at my desk after my work out. I read online today that it's WAY better to eat right after working out than before. I never got an explanation why though.
With my walking today I really only burned a little over 200 calories, but I'm really going to step it up tomorrow. More running, less walking.
I'll fit back into my old pants in no time!
